The Oak Ridge Amateur Radio Club will be conducting Merit Badge Classes in the near future for the following merit badges:
Classes will be on Tuesday nights at the Oak Ridge Power Squadron Building, 707 Emory Valley Road, Oak Ridge, 7-8:30 PM. They will be taught by qualified members of the Radio Club. There will be at least two registered scout leaders present at each session.
Scouts must obtain and read the merit badge book to participate and there is a reading requirement prior to the first session.
Note the registration deadline for each class. Scouts can send in separate registrations for separate classes as long as they observe the respective deadlines.
Resources for Eagle Scout applicants
Here is the newest calendar, and a one-page summary of our major activities for the whole year (this is especially handy for a quick reference for parents).
For 60 years, Troop 224 has been providing the youth of Oak Ridge with a high adventure Scouting program. We put together a brochure that describes many of our activities and how you can join. Click the link to download a copy.
Troop 224 never takes a break. Even when our fantastic summer camp trip to Weminuche Wilderness Area in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado was over, we jumped right in, so to speak, to our next activities with swimming and lifesaving classes.
Now as school has started we are moving back into our regular schedule of weekly meetings and monthly outings.
Regular weekly meetings resume Monday, August 20, at 7 p.m.
The next outing is a family potluck dinner and boating event at the home of Assistant Scoutmaster Kent Bailey, on Watt’s Bar. Please plan to participate and bring your whole family. It will be a great time!
You will find attached a downloadable, printable calendar that spells out what we have planned for the year. Our online calendar hasn’t been updated yet with all of the calendar events, but it will be shortly.
Mr. Goodpasture will lead four sessions for earning the Swimming and Lifesaving Merit Badges. Both of these badges are Eagle-option, meaning they can be counted as part of the 12 required merit badges.
The sessions will be Mondays 6 to 8 p.m., July 16, 23, and 30, and August 6. The location for all sessions is the Oak Ridge Outdoor Pool.
Bring $1.50 to each session for admission.
Meet Mr. Goodpasture on the Robertsville Road side (to the left of the entrance) near the picnic tables.
Call Mr. Goodpasture at (865) 435-6793 to let him know you will attend.
Don’t miss out on this excellent opportunity to earn two important merit badges!
Just because school is out, that doesn’t mean Troop 224 will take a break. So don’t take a break from Scouting. Check out this list of activities.
